About Us

Legacy Charter School is a public, tuition-free charter school educating over 450 children in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood.  Founded in 2005, Legacy is housed in a bright, beautiful, state-of-the-art LEED-certified building that is fully equipped to support high academic achievement.

Legacy believes in the possibilities of each child and is committed to helping every child fulfill his or her potential. At Legacy, high expectations, lots of support, and a commitment to knowing and understanding each scholar are all elements in building strong foundations for sustainable success. Beginning with full-day kindergarten through eighth grade, Legacy Charter School emphasizes literacy and sets the stage for sustainable academic achievement.

Legacy’s curriculum balances rigorous academic courses with a commitment to social-emotional learning. During the 2021-2022 school year, the Chicago Public Schools Office of Social-Emotional Learning awarded Legacy Charter School the SEL Supportive Schools Certification with a designation of “Exemplary,” recognizing Legacy’s focus on creating a supportive school environment and positive school culture.

Legacy Charter School – “Changing the World One Scholar At a Time”

Legacy Charter School welcomes parent and community partners that wish to invest their time, talent, and treasurers into our scholars.  The Legacy staff understands that our scholars need and deserve more than a solid academic foundation.  We believe in cultivating the natural curiosity of our scholars through exposure to a broad spectrum of positive experiences.  We would love to have you join our village.  To find out more about volunteering or partnering with Legacy Charter School, fill out our volunteer/ partner interest form.

Legacy’s mission is to be an outstanding center for teaching and learning for children and their families that recognizes and nurtures the potential of every child, provides a foundation for a college education, and educates our scholars to be creative and critical thinkers and responsible citizens in school, at home, and in the broader community.
